Citizens for Lights on Afterschool!
The Afterschool Initiative for Deschutes County

On March 11th, 2003 the newly formed action group, Citizens for Lights On Afterschool, devoted three hours of their lives to plan a better future for our Deschutes county youth. Keeping our kids safe and productive in their hours out of school is the promise we’ve made. The group was led through an efficient and effective process called The PATH to determine how we keep that promise. PATH results will be available later this spring.

About Lights On Afterschool!

Lights On Afterschool! is the only nationwide event calling attention to afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and improve academic achievement.

On October 10, Lights On Afterschool! will rally community support for afterschool by shining the spotlight on programs at over 5,000 sites across the country. Parents, community and business leaders, elected officials, and the media will have an opportunity to see firsthand the benefits afterschool programs provide.

Lights On Afterschool! is a project of the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to afterschool programs by 2010. The Alliance is proud to be supported in our work by JCPenney Afterschool, Lights On Afterschool! National Presenting Sponsor. The Alliance also salutes the many Lights On Afterschool! partners and programs, in particular the 21st Century Community Learning Centers and JCPenney Afterschool partners: 4-H, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Junior Achievement and the YMCA of the USA. Their participation makes Lights On Afterschool! a success.
